Abstract
Based on our experience with valproate during presurgical workup and e pilepsy surgery, we recommend routine prothrombin and partial thrombop lastin times and platelet count in all patients on valproate prior to the insertion of sphenoidal leads. We also recommend routine discontin uation of valproate at least 2 weeks prior to epilepsy surgery. In add ition, we prohibit its use in the immediate postoperative period.
