C. Gratzer et al., TREATMENT OF RECURRENT ANASTOMOTIC STRICT URES COMBINED WITH TOTAL URINARY-INCONTINENCE FOLLOWING RADICAL RETROPUBIC PROSTATECTOMY, Aktuelle Urologie, 24(4), 1993, pp. 232-235
A novel two-step treatment strategy for recurrent anastomotic strictur
es and total urinary incontinence following radical retropubic prostat
ectomy is reported for two cases. The first step consisted of insertio
n a self-expanding urethral endoprosthesis (Urolume(R)) over the steno
tic bladder neck. The latter had been resected previously in the same
session. As a second step, an artificial urinary sphincter (AMS-800(R)
) was inserted at the bulbous urethra. Both patients are fully contine
nt to date, and can empty their bladders completely. The advantages of
this treatment strategy for the patients outcome are discussed.
