The problem of eigenstructure assignment (eigenvalue and eigenvector a
ssignment) plays an important role in control theory and applications.
In this note, we introduce a new approach to eigenstructure assignmen
t using decentralized control. First, several analytical results are p
resented to characterize the set of decentralized controllers which ac
hieve desired eigenvalue assignment. Then, a method is proposed to sim
ultaneously assign eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a linear system usi
ng decentralized control. The method is applied to the control of a po
wer system to illustrate its effectiveness.
