Abstract
A new mathematical formulation is presented for the analysis of a part ially embedded rod under torsionless axisymmetric loadings. With an ac count of both the axial and radial compatibilities between the rod and the embedding medium through the use of a higher-order rod theory, th e three-dimensional load-transfer problem is reduced to a pair of Fred holm integral equations of the second kind whose solutions are compute d. By virtue of the present formulation, a variety of physical loading -boundary conditions which were inhibited in past treatments can be ev aluated. A comprehensive set of numerical results appropriate to diffe rent axial loading conditions, material parameters, and geometric conf igurations for the problem are provided as illustrations.
