Abstract
Specific threshold pion production studies are discussed. The NN --> d pi results provide a concise description of the pion production amplit udes at threshold. The charged-pion gammaN --> Npi measurement should complement recent (and upcoming) neutral-pion experiments, providing a test of our understanding of the role of chiral symmetry in the stron g interaction.
