Abstract
In the present paper, a simple numerical method is developed to estima te the depth of a buried spherical ore body from the zero points of th e vertical magnetic anomaly. The depth determination problem from the characteristic distances has been transformed into the problem of find ing a solution of a nonlinear equation of the form z = f(z). Procedure s are also formulated to estimate the magnetization inclination and th e magnetic moment of the sphere. The method is tested on theoretical d ata with and without random errors and also on a field exam le from Ba nkura area in West Bengal, India.
