Sl. Zhang et Jj. Oreilly, EFFECT OF STIMULATED BRILLOUIN-SCATTERING ON DISTRIBUTED ERBIUM-DOPEDFIBER AMPLIFIER, IEEE photonics technology letters, 5(5), 1993, pp. 537-539
Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) causes backward scattering of th
e pump light and this in turn causes a reduction in the gain of a dist
ributed erbium-doped fiber amplifier (DEDFA). A theoretical analysis o
f the influence of SBS on a DEDFA is presented in this paper and illus
trative numerical results are presented. It is shown that there exists
a threshold value of pump laser linewidth: when the pump laser linewi
dth is smaller than this threshold value the gain of the DEDFA is redu
ced greatly. This analysis and the results presented facilitate the de
sign and optimization of DEDFA's.
