The interest of the flattened dynamic gain of an erbium-doped fluorozi
rconate fiber amplifier is demonstrated in a lightwave CATV system inc
luding a 50-channel subcarrier multiplex. Using two analog DFB laser d
iodes, one with a relatively high chirp, the other with a very low chi
rp, a comparison between amplifiers built with erbium-doped silica and
fluoride fiber demonstrates the significant influence of the laser FM
response when the spectral dynamic gain of the amplifier is not const
ant.
