Abstract
Transient expression of Escherichia coli beta-glucuronidase (GUS) gene is reported in Uromyces appendiculatus var. appendiculatus following bombardment of urediniospores with gold particles coated with plasmid DNA. The plasmid contained the chimaeric GUS gene driven by the caulif lower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S promoter fragment. GUS activity could be detected both histochemically and spectrophotometrically after partic le introduction of the plasmid into the urediniospores.
