Abstract
We present an exact expression for the joint count probability in an e ight-port homodyne detector used in a recent proposal for a phase meas urement by Noh et al. For a strong local oscillator we relate this joi nt count probability to the Q-function of the arbitrary input state. T his Q-function integrated over radius is the phase distribution corres ponding to the phase operators of Noh et al.
