Abstract
We calculate the cavity photon statistics of conventionally pumped fou r-level lasers using a diagonal number state representation. The resul ts are in agreement with those obtained from previous treatments using linearized Fokker-Planck equations and predict sub-Poissonian photon statistics at sufficiently high pump rates.
