Abstract
This study is concerned with the correct use of the scientific zoologi cal nomenclature for domesticated and laboratory animals. With the hel p of four tables, additionally, the most current latin names of all im portant domesticated animals (animals of economic importance, ranch-br ed animals, companion animals, fancy animals laboratory animals) are g iven. The authors suggest a formal nomenclature for domesticated anima ls which should Principally be related to the scientific name of the p arent species (binominally and in italics), as always followed by the completion <<forma domestica / f. dom.>> (not in italics). Problems ar ising from the use of such scientific names when hybridization and int rogression is concerned are also discussed, and appropiate nomenclatur e is proposed.
