Extraction chromatography using Kel-F as support and acetylacetone (AA
) as stationary phase has been employed to achieve the chemical separa
tion of Cr and Ni. Critical studies were made on several factors affec
ting the distribution of each metal, such as the retention efficiency
at 25 and 80-degrees-C and the pH of the solution. It was observed tha
t the concentration of AA in CHCl3 played an important role in the chr
omatographic procedure. Application of the procedure to the determinat
ion of Ni in alloys is reported.
