Abstract
Family planning attitudes and experiences in two regions of Alaska and in Chukotka and Kamchatka in the Russian Far East are described and c ompared as' part of the initial work of the Social Transition in the N orth project. While there are a large number of similarities among the se regions in terms of both industrial development and demography, gre at differences exist as well. Through survey data it is made clear tha t differences noted are related primarily to differing national polici es toward family planning rather than to ethnicity.
