Ai. Alterman et At. Mclellan, INPATIENT AND DAY HOSPITAL TREATMENT SERVICES FOR COCAINE AND ALCOHOLDEPENDENCE, Journal of substance abuse treatment, 10(3), 1993, pp. 269-275
We compared the treatment services provided male cocaine and alcohol d
ependent patients in a one month day hospital and a one month inpatien
t rehabilitation program. The quantity of medical, employment, alcohol
, drug, legal, family/social, and psychiatric treatments were ascertai
ned using the recently developed Treatment Services Review instrument.
The day hospital program provided more drug and alcohol treatments to
alcoholic patients than the inpatient program, but the inpatient prog
ram provided more employment services. By contrast, the inpatient prog
ram provided more alcohol, medical, employment, and psychiatric servic
es to cocaine dependent patients, although more drug treatments were p
rovided by the day hospital. The day hospital also appeared to provide
a greater differentiation of services for the two patient groups than
the inpatient program. The evidence provides interesting information
concerning the nature of treatments provided by different programs and
also supports the validity and utility of the TSR as a measure of tre
atment provided.
