Magnetostriction measurements were performed on Ho2Fe17 single crystal
s, using high pulsed magnetic fields up to 15 T and in the temperature
range of 5-300 K. Volume deformations in the basal plane have been ob
served to be one order of magnitude greater than the volume longitudin
al deformation along the c axis. The main contribution to the magnetos
triction modes arises from the 3d-3d exchange interaction.
