The hard magnetic properties of melt-spun Nd (Fe, M) 12 nitrides and c
arbides were studied. The highest coercivity was obtained in NdFe10Mo2
Nx with values of 8.8 kOe at room temperature and 33.7 kOe at 10 K. Ot
her Nd(Fe,M)12N(C), compounds had similar intrinsic magnetic propertie
s but a lower coercivity than NdFe10Mo2Nx. The low coercivities were a
ttributed to the three soft sources; alpha-Fe, non-ThMn12 structure, a
nd insufficient nitrogenation or carbonation.
