Abstract
Multilayered thin films composed of Co and MgO layers were fabricated with an ultrahigh vacuum deposition technique. Magnetization measureme nts suggest that antiferromagnetic Co oxides do not form at the interf ace with the MgO layers. An enhancement of the magnetization is observ ed in a film with the Co layer thickness thinner than 30 angstrom. The maximum enhancement is about 10% of the bulk magnetization of hcp Co metal in a Co/MgO(22/30 angstrom) multilayered thin film whose magneti zation is 180 emu per gram of Co.
