Abstract
The moment method is used to solve the integral equations describing r ectangular microstrip backfire antennas. After checking the accuracy b y comparing calculated and measured results, the effect of the top pat ch is analyzed theoretically, especially the variation of impedance an d gain with two parameters, the distance between the two patches and t he size of the top patch. A configuration with maximum gain is determi ned.
