A numerical solution is given for the problem of electromagnetic field
penetration into and scattering from a slotted conducting cylinder of
arbitrary cross section filled with a homogeneous dielectric material
. The equivalence principle is employed to replace the conducting shel
l and the dielectric with equivalent surface currents radiating in unb
ounded media. The boundary condition on the electric field in the equi
valent problems is used to obtain the electric field equation formulat
ion of the problem. Method of moments with pulse expansion and testing
procedure is applied to the resulting integral equations. Computed re
sults are presented for TE plane wave excitation and include current d
istributions, internal fields, and echo widths.
