H. Heinecke et S. Jaeger, THE FOUNDATION OF ANTHROPOID-RESEARCH-STA TION IN THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH-CENTURY, Biologisches Zentralblatt, 112(2), 1993, pp. 215-223
The foundation of anthropoid research stations at the beginning of the
20th century began with the station of the Prussian Acedemy Berlin in
Orotava/Tenerife (1912-1920). This was followed by the station of the
Pasteur Institute Paris in Kindia/French Guinea (1923-1960), the Prim
ate Research Laboratory of the Yale University New Haven (1925-today),
the Sukhumi Monkey Breeding Station/Sukhumi UdSSR (1927-today) and di
e Hamilton Research Laboratory on Montecido/USA (1910-1918). With the
foundation of such anthropoid stations significant improvments were ac
hieved in the investigation of the biology of these animals under almo
st seminatural conditions. It was the beginning of a new era in biomed
ical research.
