Abstract
Litter of Ceratiola ericoides and soil associated with this shrub were analysed for their volatiles by dynamic headspace sampling, followed by GC-MS identification. In litter volatiles, 1-octene, 3-octanol and 1-pentanol were most prevalent, while aliphatic alcohols and ketones w ere most abundant in soil. The major classes of volatiles, in both lit ter and soil, were aliphatic alcohols, aldehydes and ketones, and less er amounts of benzenoids, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes.
