Lavandula hybrids (lavandins) were collected in full bloom at various
elevations in different north western Italian Alp valleys. Lipids were
extracted from aerial parts in order to evaluate their fatty acid con
tent. The data obtained were statistically processed with multivariate
methods. A high content of palmitic acid was found in most of the hyb
rids analysed. The linolenate/linoleate ratio was also calculated and
is discussed. The results provided evidence for the presence of three
distinct chemotypes.
