Abstract
Two experiments (wheat and barley) were carried out in 1990 in a Dark- Red Latosol, clay texture, in Planaltina, DF, Brazil. The treatments c onsidered two depths (5.0 and 8.0 cm) and three seed treatments: witho ut any fungicide as check; with triadimenol, and with thiran. Both fun gicides were applied on two wheat cultivars (BR 12 and BR 16) and on t wo barley lines (L 8023 and L 8299). Wheat experiment: no effect was o bserved for the seed treatments at the initial stand and for the numbe r of days to reach 50% of emergence; triadimenol reduced the number of stems/plot, subcoronal internode length and the percentage of infecti on by B. sorokiniana on the coleoptile length, subcoronal internode, c rown. and secondary roots; higher emergence speed for the varieties BR 12 of 5.0 cm and in BR 16 of 8.0 cm was found for thiran. Barley expe riment: Seed treatment was not effective at the initial stand, stems/p lot, emergence index and number of days to 50% of emergence; triadimen ol effect decreased the coleoptile length and subcoronal internode len gth and the percentage of infection by B. sorokiniana on the subcorona l internode, crown, and secondary roots.
