Abstract
This paper analyzes a one-dimensional temperature field problem on sol idification with two moving boundaries. The theoretical results are co mpared with those obtained from the finite element analysis and a sati sfactory agreement is obtained. It is further extended to a 2-D case o f welding on a thin plate to show the movement of the solidus and liqu idus interfaces in the material during the phase change.
