T. Isozaki et al., IMPROVEMENT ON ADHESION STRENGTH OF DIAMOND FILM ON CEMENTED CARBIDE BY HEATED INTERMEDIATE LAYER, DIAMOND AND RELATED MATERIALS, 2(8), 1993, pp. 1156-1159
Recently, we have obtained good adhesion strength between diamond film
and an ISO K-type insert, which is the most common type of cutting in
serts for Al and Al-Si alloys, by heating the intermediate layer which
is affixed to the insert. The heat treatment caused the migration of
some metal component of the intermediate layer to the surface region a
nd improved the adhesion strength between the diamond and the substrat
e. The cutting life and performance of a diamond-coated ISO K-type ins
ert with heat treatment of intermediate layer were equal to those of a
polycrystalline diamond insert.
