A new device for measuring yam-on-yam frictional forces is presented.
Six kinds of worsted plied yams are measured for frictional forces in
two arrangements-perpendicular and skew. Four methods of experimental
data analysis are applied: Euler's equation, Howell's equation, and tw
o methods in which the cohesion forces are taken into account. The equ
ations characterizing the yarn-on-yarn frictional process and consider
ing the cohesion forces in two boundary cases are derived. Results obt
ained using different methods are discussed.
