Rc. Rowe et al., THE EFFECT OF PARTICLE-SIZE ON THE HEAT OF IMMERSION OF MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE, International journal of pharmaceutics, 91(2-3), 1993, pp. 247-250
The effect of particle size on the heat of immersion of microcrystalli
ne cellulose (Avicel) has been measured using microcalorimetry. Curves
of heat of immersion against moisture content for all four particle s
izes were superimposable when the data were expressed on a weight basi
s but when expressed on a surface area basis, the data for the smalles
t particle size were consistently lower. Reasons for this anomaly have
been hypothesised.
