IDENTIFICATION OF PORPHYRINS PRODUCED FROM ISOPROPANOL BY ARTHROBACTER-HYALINUS

When Arthrobacter hyalinus was grown on isopropanol, a large amount of red pigment was accumulated in the culture broth. The pigment was iso lated from the culture broth. With thin layer chromatography, FD mass, IR, H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR, and absorption spectra methods it was found th at the red pigments were composed of type III varieties of coproporphy rin, penta carboxyl porphyrin, hexa carboxyl porphyrin, hepta carboxyl porphyrin and uroporphyrin, and some type I uroporphyrin.
