Anisotropic associates characterized by a high degree of surface curva
ture and high internal viscosity are observed in aqueous dispersions o
f bilaminar vesicles of cationic double-chain, surface-active monomers
-derivatives of dialylamine. These associates, termed ''anisotropic v
esicles,'' are observed by several physicochemical methods at concentr
ations four orders greater than the critical concentration for vesicle
formation. A structure is proposed for the associates.
