A new method is suggested for calculating the inverse stopping and pho
toionization (in the integral sense) absorption coefficients of a plas
ma within the quantum defect theory. The radial integrals are calculat
ed within the quasiclassical approximation. The quantum defects, as we
ll as the amplitude and phase functions of the radial integrals are ap
proximated by linear energy dependences, making it possible to integra
te analytically the Maxwell-Boltzmann electron distribution. A compari
son is carried out with numerical calculations and other analytic appr
oximations.
