Abstract
Distinct differences in the emission spectra from the breakdown of HN3 are observed for transverse excitation of HN3 gas mixtures by ultravi olet (UV) preionization relative to pulsed microwave discharges. In th e dc UV preionized discharges, electrode effects liberate metal atoms dominating the emission spectra while the NH(A-X) band emission is abs ent. Pulsed microwave excitation incorporating an electrodeless quartz discharge region produces the NH(A-X) emission but reduced by signifi cant quenching.
