Abstract
Histochemical features of the ecdysial glands (EGs) of mature nymphs o f P. americana has been probed. This study is made to characterise the presence of biochemically important constituents in the glandular com ponents of the gland. Localization of lipids, glycogen and acid phosph atase is notewrorthy despite the presence of general proteins, nucleic acids and alkaline phosphatase. Functional implication of these macro molecules has been discussed in the light of steroid hormone (ecdysone ) production from these transitory non-neural endocrine glands in cour se of metamorphosis.
