Abstract
The two-dimensional problem of the scattering of ultrasound by an unkn own void in a solid is investigated. A nonlinear functional is formula ted and the minimum conditions for it are used to derive a system of n onlinear equations for determining the characteristic function of the object. The number of positions from which to irradiate the object in order to guarantee a unique solution of the problem is discussed.
