Ey. Gorodetskaya et al., MODELING OF THE OPTIMAL SPATIAL PROCESSING OF SIGNALS IN UNDERWATER SOUND CHANNELS, Soviet physics. Acoustics, 38(6), 1992, pp. 571-575
The possibilities of maximizing the pin in the spatial processing of f
requency-coherent multimode signals in the horizontal plane in an unde
rwater sound channel are investigated theoretically. The method of det
ermining an orthogonal basis of amplitude-phase distributions in mode
space is used to analyze the efficiency of linear and quadratic signal
processing in an isotropic noise field as a function of the number of
elements in the array, the scale of intermodal correlations, and the
mutual orthogonality of modes in the receiving aperture. The maximum p
rocessing gains are estimated; the resulting estimates can bc applied
to the operation of a receiving array in specific signal-noise situati
ons encountered in ocean waveguides.
