Sj. Hampson et al., LHRH ANALOGS AS PRIMARY-TREATMENT FOR URINARY RETENTION IN PATIENTS WITH PROSTATIC-CARCINOMA, British Journal of Urology, 71(5), 1993, pp. 583-586
Thirty-one patients with retention of urine and carcinoma of the prost
ate were treated with LHRH analogues as primary therapy rather than pr
ostatectomy; 21 patients voided without the need for surgical interven
tion. Patients presenting in acute retention of urine voided more read
ily than those presenting in chronic retention, with only 20% requirin
g surgery. This approach to treatment is safe, efficacious and cost ef
fective.
