The electron absorption spectra of alkylvinyl chalcogenides (CH2 = CHE
Alk, E = S, Se, Te) were analyzed with consideration of the photoelect
ron spectroscopic data. The following sequence of electronic transitio
ns was found in their UV spectra: (S) : pi --> sigma < pi --> pi* < p
i --> np approximately pi --> sigma, (Se) : pi --> sigma* < pi --> pi
approximately pi --> ns < pi --> sigma* < pi --> np, (Te) : pi --> s
igma < pi --> sigma* < pi --> ns < pi --> pi* < pi --> np.
