Photon emission during bombardment of silver surfaces by ions and elec
trons was investigated. In particular the influence of adsorbed and im
planted oxygen atoms upon the shape of the observed continuum radiatio
n was studied. It was found that the maximum of continuum radiation ne
ar the wavelength 330 nm is correlated with the presence of oxygen on
the silver surface.
