A. Beinlich et al., DISSEMINATED ABDOMINAL ACTINOMYCOSIS AS A DIFFERENTIAL-DIAGNOSIS OF GENITAL TUMORS - CASE-REPORT AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE, Geburtshilfe und Frauenheilkunde, 57(3), 1997, pp. 132-135
Genital actinomycosis is rare and leads to a variety of symptoms, so t
hat diagnosis is made in most cases after operation only. We report on
a 53-year old woman presenting with rapidly growing uterus myomatosus
, weight loss and leucocytosis. While preoperative diagnostic examinat
ions were suspicious for a malignant process, intraoperative histologi
cal evaluation showed evidence of an abscess-forming infection. The fi
nal postoperative histological evaluation revealed abdominal actinomyc
osis. In a review of the literature, the most important aspects of gen
ital actinomycosis are discussed, paying special attention to its role
in differential diagnosis.
