The general mechanism of thermal decomposition of Ni(NO3)2.2H2O was ex
amined. It was shown that this process occurs in two stages, with form
ation of a solid intermediate in the first stage and nonstoichiometric
NiO in the second. It was found that the intermediate consists of cry
stalline, anhydrous Ni(NO3)2 and turbostratic Ni(OH)2 in a molar ratio
of 1:1. Appropriate chemical equations are given.
