Abstract
The effects of chronic alcohol ingestion on the ventral lobe of the pr ostate were studied in rats (Rattus norvegicus). Ultrastructural obser vations on the epithelial cells of the ventral lobe of the prostate sh owed irregularly shaped nuclei with deep infoldings, dilated RER ciste rnae, and a small number of microvilli covering the cell surface. Afte r 90 and 135 days of alcohol treatment, the epithelial cells showed si gns of degeneration. (C) 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
