Va. Dodonov et Df. Grishin, POLYMERIZATION OF SOME VINYL MONOMERS ON TRIISOBUTYLBORON-CONTAINING RADICAL INITIATORS IN THE PRESENCE OF HYDROQUINONE AND BENZOQUINONE, Vysokomolekularnye soedinenia. Seria A, 35(3), 1993, pp. 20000137-20000141
Hydroquinone inhibits polymerization of vinyl acetate and vinyl chlori
de and accelerates the polymerization of acrylonitrile and methyl meth
acrylate in the presence of triisobutylboron-containing radical initia
ting systems. The selective action of hydroquinone on these monomers i
s caused by the different electrophility of growing macroradicals coor
dinated with alkylboron. The poly(acrylonitrilic) and poly(methyl meth
acrylic) radicals coordinationally linked by triisobutylboron do not e
liminate the hydrogen atom from hydroquinone and exhibit high reactivi
ty to benzoquinone.
