A gamma detector array for studying high-spin structure in nuclei has
been constructed by combining detectors from two universities. The sys
tem contains 11 high-resolution Ge detectors with BGO Compton-suppress
ion shields and 28 low-resolution BGO scintillators to provide multipl
icity and sum energy information. A unique feature of the array is the
heterogeneous nature of the detectors which were not originally purch
ased for such a system.
