Low temperature detectors promise an order of magnitude improvement ov
er semiconducting devices in energy resolution, spatial resolution and
radiation hardness. Within this broad field, bolometers and supercond
ucting tunnel junctions are reviewed and potential applications for ac
celerator based experiments are examined, Our own experiments using Sn
, In, Sn(Sb) and In(Bi) alloy based superconducting grain detectors ha
ve demonstrated excellent reproducibility and uniformity.
