We have investigated numerically the onset of spatiotemporal intermitt
ency in a one-dimensional lattice of coupled nonlinear maps. The phase
boundary between the laminar and intermittent states has a complicate
d form, with several reentrant regions. Using finite-size scaling, we
have determined the critical exponents associated with the transition
to spatiotemporal intermittency for several values of the map's coupli
ng parameter. The exponents appear to be nonuniversal in the weak-coup
ling limit of the map.
