Abstract
The selective reduction of nitrogen dioxide over a Cu-ZSM-5 preparatio n has been studied and compared with the same reaction with nitric oxi de. Nitrogen dioxide appears to play a critical role in the overall re action mechanism in both cases. Excess oxygen is required to produce n itrogen dioxide to oxidize the hydrocarbon, to keep the catalyst clean and to prevent excessive reduction of the Cu2+ cations.
