Aa. Vanzwet et al., SENSITIVITY OF CULTURE COMPARED WITH THAT OF POLYMERASE CHAIN-REACTION FOR DETECTION OF HELICOBACTER-PYLORI FROM ANTRAL BIOPSY SAMPLES, Journal of clinical microbiology, 31(7), 1993, pp. 1918-1920
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to test the sensitivity of st
andard bacteriological culture of Helicobacter pylori. The tests were
concordant in 97% of cases. PCR did not detect more treatment failures
after triple treatment than did the standard culture method. In the p
resent study, culture was as sensitive as PCR for the detection of H.
pylori.
