Amanita reidii is described and compared with the closely related A. p
halloides Fr. Link. Since the publication of the recent monograph of S
outh African species of Amanita (reid & Eicker, 1991) a further undesc
ribed species has been found growing in open stands of Eucalyptus. Thi
s new taxon is recognized by its grey-brown cap, conspicuously streake
d with darker radial markings and by its saccate volva. A description
of the new taxon follows: Amanita reidii Eicker & Greuning, sp. nov.
