A. Wyttenbach et al., THE ACCUMULATION OF ARSENIC, BROMINE AND IODINE IN NEEDLES OF NORWAY SPRUCE (PICEA-ABIES [L] KARST) AT SITES WITH LOW POLLUTION, Water, air and soil pollution, 94(3-4), 1997, pp. 417-430
The concentrations of As, Br and I were measured in needles, in the ma
terial deposited on the needle surface and in the soil. Results from 8
unpolluted and one polluted continental sites and from one maritime s
ite are reported. The mass of all 3 elements on the needle surface is
similar to that in the needles. Needle concentrations increase linearl
y with the needle age class, but net accumulation during the first yea
r is larger than during later years. There are significant correlation
s between the material on the needle surface and the needle concentrat
ions for As and Br, but not between the soil and the needle concentrat
ions. Bromine values are much higher at the polluted and at the mariti
me site than at the unpolluted sites.
