Mitochondrial DNA analysis of the blunt-snouted and sharp-snouted leno
ks of the sympatric zone (Amur basin) and blunt-snouted lenok of two a
llopartic populations (North-Eastern and Southern Primorye) as well as
taimen was carried out with 12 restriction endonucleases. Nine mtDNA
clones were resolved: in fours for each form of lenok and one for taim
en. Estimation of the average percent of nucleotide differences of mtD
NA (pi) obtained for one sample of sharp-snouted lenok was 0.51 + 0.17
. For blunt-snouted lenok the similar value of pi(0.52 + 0.21) was rea
ched by comparison of three geographically farthest populations (divid
ed by approx. 1000 km) with each other. Two forms of lenok showed esse
ntial genetic differences - pi = 1.86 + 0.56. Estimation of pi between
lenoks and taimen amounts to 3.25 + 0.89. Phylogeny of lenok and taim
en and relationships between two forms of lenok on the East of the are
a are discussed.
